- Stop all deliveries to your house while you are away.
- Ensure that your pets are properly cared for.
- Unplug all TV’s, microwaves, videos and cordless telephones whilst on holiday to avoid lightning damage.
- Arrange with a friend or neighbour to switch lights on and off at irregular times and if possible, ensure this is done in conjunction with random visits to the property.
- Before you go on holiday, do not leave large piles of boxes with gift wrappings or similar articles on the pavement for refuse removal.
- If you have an alarm, ensure that there is a friend or a neighbour who knows how to deal with the alarm and the consequences of it being activated.
- If the burglar alarm is linked to an armed response unit, inform them about your absence and request them to step up their visits, even if this entails an additional payment.
- If possible, remove items of high value to a place of safekeeping. Use a safe, strong room or an internal room with strong doors and no external windows as storage room.
- Please avoid taking jewellery to the beach or leaving it in a handbag. It is always better to hand valuables in at your hotel for safekeeping.
